Dr. Arun Mani Dixit

Dr. Dixit is a distinguished ecologist with over 35 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, with deep expertise in wetland ecology, forestry, agroforestry, and ecosystem services. His work spans a wide range of ecosystems across India including wetlands, forests, grasslands, mangroves, and agroecosystems, contributing to sustainable resource management and ecological resilience at landscape scale.

Research and conservation: Dr. Dixit has led impactful research and conservation initiatives focused on ecosystem restoration, wetland and grassland management, and socio-economic integration. His notable contributions include studies in the Little Rann of Kachchh and the Tarai region, two of India's most ecologically significant and complex landscapes.

Technical breadth: His project portfolio spans eco-tourism planning, coral reef valuation, and community-based biodiversity programmes across multiple states. He brings strong capabilities in GIS and remote sensing to every Oikos engagement, enabling the spatial analysis and field verification that sets Oikos's work apart.

Institutional collaborations: He has collaborated with leading national and international organisations including MoEFCC, IUCN, WWF, the World Bank, ADB, FAO, and GIZ, playing a significant role in shaping conservation strategies and policy frameworks at both national and international levels.

Ms. Seema Subhash Mali

Seema brings over 25 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, forest management, ecological restoration, and environmental sustainability. Her career spans research institutions, government bodies, mining corporations, and conservation organisations across India — giving her a rare combination of scientific depth, regulatory fluency, and practical field knowledge.

Career foundation: Seema began her work in 1998 at the Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT) in Bengaluru, where she developed deep expertise in medicinal plant conservation, traditional knowledge systems, and the documentation of India's botanical heritage.

Research leadership: She subsequently led field research with the Gir Foundation in Gujarat — an institution affiliated with the State Forest Department — where she co-led a project funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change documenting 1,315 medicinal plant species across Gujarat in partnership with state universities. She co-authored a book on the medicinal plants of Gujarat arising from this research.

Policy and practice: In Maharashtra, Seema served as Technical Advisor to the State Medicinal Plants Board, working directly with farmers on medicinal plant cultivation systems, market access policy, and government funding mechanisms — bridging the gap between ecological science and rural livelihoods.

Industry leadership: At Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores (SMIORE), one of Karnataka's most significant mining operations, she headed the Environment and Sustainability Department, leading green belt development, nursery management, forest restoration, and regulatory compliance across a complex, ecologically sensitive industrial landscape. This experience gave her direct insight into the practical challenges of ecological restoration at industrial scale.

Technical expertise: Her expertise spans Environment and Forest clearances, collaboration with MoEF&CC, CPCB, and State Forest Departments, wildlife ecology and management, Peoples Biodiversity Registers (PBR), species recovery programmes, GHG inventorisation, and sustainability assessments. She is a certified sustainability assessor with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and has extensive experience evaluating sustainability performance across large-scale industries.

Her leadership in green initiatives including herbal gardens, propagation of endangered species, native plant nurseries, biodiversity conservation, and greenhouse gas inventorisation has delivered measurable outcomes across multiple industrial and institutional contexts.

Sector experience: He has contributed to major master planning initiatives, enterprise GIS systems, and complex geospatial data projects in India and the Middle East. His expertise includes spatial analysis, geodatabase design and management, remote sensing, and GIS-based decision support systems for planning and operations across industries.

For Oikos: Dr. Jagadeesh combines strong domain knowledge in geology with advanced GIS capabilities to deliver accurate, data-driven, and scalable spatial solutions for our environmental projects. His work underpins the mapping, corridor analysis, habitat delineation, and regulatory spatial data that Oikos's biodiversity assessments, WCMPs, and restoration projects require.

Mr. Arun Kumar N

Academic background: He has served as an Assistant Professor at both the Institute for Social and Economic Change and PES University, and is currently a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Environment and Social Concerns. His professional engagements include collaborations with the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Indian Council of Social Science Research.

Technical expertise: Dr. Bedamatta's work is grounded in ecosystem service valuation, climate adaptation strategies, and policy-oriented research on rural livelihoods and resource governance. He has led and contributed to analytical studies on wetland ecosystems, small-scale fisheries, and social protection systems, applying economic frameworks to address environmental and developmental challenges.

Ms. Rajeswari Namagiri

She has worked extensively at the intersection of environment, development, and social equity, building programmes that are technically rigorous and deeply community-rooted.

Current affiliations: She is currently associated with Mahila Housing SEWA Trust and Foundation for Ecological Security, and previously served for 15 years at the Centre for Environment Education — one of India's most significant institutions in environmental education and capacity building.

Focus areas: Her work focuses on climate resilience, gender-responsive development, and capacity building, with experience designing and implementing programmes across energy, water, waste, biodiversity, and urban systems. She is an active member of the InsuResilience Global Partnership, contributing to climate and disaster risk finance solutions for vulnerable communities.

Global platforms: Rajeswari has contributed to global platforms including UNFCCC COP engagements, Resilience Hub initiatives, and climate education frameworks. Her experience spans climate risk insurance for the urban poor, rural commons governance, and grassroots women's leadership, enabling inclusive solutions for climate adaptation and sustainable development.

He brings deep knowledge of statutory frameworks and regulatory processes, with extensive experience securing EC, FC, CFE, and CFO approvals.

Regulatory relationships: He has extensive experience engaging with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Central Pollution Control Board, and the Archaeological Survey of India. His experience presenting complex environmental cases before Expert Appraisal and regulatory committees ensures that Oikos's regulatory submissions are both technically sound and procedurally robust.

Sustainability leadership: He has led and advised on innovative sustainability initiatives including green belt development, afforestation, mine reclamation, biodiversity conservation, and climate-responsive interventions including carbon sequestration strategies, Miyawaki plantations, and wetland and wildlife conservation plans. Research leadership: Prof. Narayana has successfully led and contributed to multiple funded research projects supported by national agencies including the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology, and University Grants Commission, focusing on aquatic ecosystems, climate change, and ecological restoration.

Academic contributions: With extensive experience in research supervision, policy-relevant studies, and institutional leadership, he has guided numerous Ph.D. scholars and contributed to environmental planning, biodiversity documentation, and sustainable resource management across Karnataka and beyond.
